A Mount Rainier Wedding
When you are choosing a wedding location, I think it is easy to focus too much on what a venue looks like in one photo. The better question is, “What will I actually have to work with on my wedding day?”
That is one of the reasons I love Mount Rainier for weddings.
Rachel and Drew Murdock’s wedding is a great example of what makes this area such a good choice for couples who want their photos to have a strong sense of place. Mount Rainier gives you a lot to work with without needing to make the setting overly complicated. You have the mountain, trees, open spaces, changing weather, and all of the natural scenery that comes with being in the Pacific Northwest. There are also several wedding locations around the mountain, from forest settings and lodges to venues with direct views of Mount Rainier.
For me, one of the biggest advantages is the variety.
You can have photos surrounded by tall trees and greenery, then turn around and have a completely different background with the mountain in the distance. If the weather changes throughout the day, that can change the look of your photos too. A little cloud cover can make the mountains feel completely different than they do on a bright afternoon.
That gives you options without having to travel all over the place for every photo.
Mount Rainier is also a good fit if you do not want your wedding photos to feel overly decorated. The surroundings already give you something interesting to photograph. That means you can keep your flowers, tables, and other details simple if that is more your style. Or, if you love details, they can be layered into the setting without competing with it.
And then there are the photos.
If you are someone who wants your wedding gallery to include more than just portraits in front of a pretty wall, Mount Rainier gives you plenty of opportunities to move around and use the environment. You can take a few minutes for portraits surrounded by trees, find an open area, use the mountain as a backdrop, and then come back to the details and people that made the day yours.
I also think it is a great option for couples who want their wedding to feel like an experience. Getting married near Mount Rainier can give your guests something to enjoy outside of the actual ceremony and reception. There are hiking trails, mountain scenery, cabins, lodges, and plenty of places to explore throughout the area.
Rachel and Drew’s wedding shows exactly why I think this setting works so well. The location does not need to be the entire focus of the day. It simply gives you a beautiful environment to build around.
